In the movie, ordinary guy Emmet is mistaken for the Master Builder – the one who can save the universe. Museum visitors can watch The LEGO Movie in 3D at the museum’s 3D theater during this special run that coincides with the LEGO fan festival, Brick Fest Live. $3 per adult/child pair, plus NYSCI admission. Held in the museum’s Maker Space, participants learn to use hand tools like files, rasps, saws and sandpaper. Visitors learn to create wooden LEGO Minifig heads in this one-hour workshop. Register online at Custom Wood LEGO Heads (Members: $50 per adult/child pair.) Preregistration required. $60 per adult/child pair, plus NYSCI admission. Recommended for children ages 4 and older. Ticket includes one kit and two spots (one adult and one child) for the workshop. Figurines of an astronaut and a museum staff member complete the special kit. The resulting 6-inch rocket resembles the museum’s Atlas rocket from the 1964-65 World’s Fair. Under the guidance of LEGO brick builder Cody Wells, participants build a rocket using a limited edition rocket kit creating for the museum. Activities include a LEGO Video Game Station, the Red Brick Pit with over 100,000 red LEGOs, and the LEGO Nerdy Derby where you can build and race your own LEGO cars. Sculptures include Starship Enterprise, Ghost Busters Fire House Collection, Smurf Village, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Sewer System, and Toy Story’s Woody. Kids and adults can get inspired, educated and entertained with LEGO bricks at this ultimate LEGO fan experience. Preregistration required by calling 71 or emailing Fest Live They’ll bring a part of the story home with them by creating with everyday materials. Children ages 4 – 6 and their parents use an iPad app to add colorful dots, text, sounds and their own voices to a story.
